Turner ECS has recently completed a retrofit project on a cruiseferry sailing between IJmuiden and North Shields. The two twin propulsion control systems, responsible for speed, load and clutch control, have been replaced by new systems based on Woodward's latest engine control platform, LECM.
Mechanical load sharing between the engines, which was prone to intermittent failures, has been upgraded using fuel rack position sensors. In addition new start-fuel limiter logic has been implemented to reduce smoke during engine starts and propeller phase control logic has been implemented to reduce vibrations and improve fuel efficiency.
